Tips to Keep Pets Safe this Summer

As we are getting into peak summer, we are seeing some hot temperatures that can be difficult to cope with. While we are feeling the heat, our furry friends also struggle to keep cool this time of year. Here are some good summer safety practices to help keep your pets safe this summer.

Never leave your pets in a parked car:

Vehicle temperatures can reach dangerous temperatures rapidly. On an 85-degree day, the temperature inside a car, with windows slightly open, can reach 102 degrees in 10 minutes. In the summertime, it is best to leave your pets at home while you are running errands.

Watch the humidity:

If you are planning an outdoor adventure with your pet, check the temperature and humidity first. Dogs pant to evaporate moisture and lower their body temperatures. If the humidity is too high, they cannot cool themselves effectively. Check the humidity and plan your adventure to ensure your furry companion doesn’t overheat.

Provide ample shade and water:

If your pet is spending time outside, make sure they have access to shade and cool water. Tree shade and tarps are great since they do not block air flow.
